ACT Score Conversion Chart Score Percentiles

ACT Score Conversion Chart Score Percentiles SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips If you took the ACT or are preparing for the ACT, you should understand score percentiles. Colleges use score percentiles as a way to compare students across the country and within each state. In this article, I’ll explain what an ACT Score Percentile is and how to use it in your ACT score planning. What’s an ACT Score Percentile? According to ACT, Inc., your ACT score percentiles â€Å"are the approximate percentages of recent high school graduates in the U.S. who took the ACT and received scores that are the same as or lower than your scores on the multiple-choice subject area tests and your subscores." More exactly, your percentile tells you abouthow many students scored better and worse than you.For instance, if your score percentile is 65, then you scored higher than 65% of test-takers who sat for the ACT the same day as you did. 35% of test-takers scored better than you. NOTE: Your score percentile isnot the percentage of questions answered correctly. Getting a percentile score of 65 does notmean you answered 65% of questions correctly.Your percentile score is only a comparison between you and other test-takers. How Do I Figure Out My Percentile? The ACT will tell you your percentile ranking for your composite score, for the four individual sections, and for the section subscores on your ACT student score report. Your four individual section score percentiles and your section subscore percentiles are relatively unimportant. Colleges likely don’t look closely at these numbers. When it comes to the ACT, your composite score is the most important number. It’s the number most colleges use when they report admitted student score ranges (which I’ll talk about more in-depth below). However, this policy varies by school, and you should make sure to look up your target school’s policy. Some schools superscore the ACT, so individual section scores do matter for those schools. When you receive your ACT score report, you’ll have a lot of other numbers on there, making the percentile score hard to find. Your composite score percentile is the small number listed as â€Å"U.S. Rank† directly to the right of your big boxed â€Å"Composite Score†: Via ACT.org Your U.S. Rank compares you to every other student in the U.S. who sat for the ACT.For this example student, his or her score percentile was 56, so he or she scored better than 56% of US test-takers.Your State Rank percentile (which is directly to the right of the U.S. Rank percentile) compares you to everyone in your state who tookthe SAT.For this example student, his or her state score percentile was 58, so he or she scored better than 58% of test-takers in his or her state.I’ll go into more depth on why you receive these two different composite percentiles below. ACT Percentile Score Chart If you haven't yet taken the ACT, you can use this chart to get a sense of how US students tend to score on the ACT. You can see in general what is considered a good or bad score based on the percentile. This ACT score chart was compiled using the most recent data from ACT.org. The ACT produced this data using all of the ACT scores of ACT-tested US high school graduates from 2013-2015. NOTE: these numbers do fluctuate slightly from year to year. However, the differences are small. To see the tiny differences, you can compare the chart below to that in our ACT Percentiles article from February 2015 which used the most recent data at the time. The score percentiles fluctuate at most 1-2 percent from year to year. Do Percentiles Matter? Your score percentile is somewhat important because it helps colleges compare your ACT score to those of other applicants. It’s important for colleges to have a sense of how you compare to students across the country because if colleges just looked at your scaled score without any other information, they would not have a good sense of what makes a good score and what makes a bad score. For example, if you’d received a 33 composite score and a college did not have the percentile, the college admissions officer might judge that asa school test and think you received 33 out of 36 that about 92% that’s an A-, good but not great. However, with the percentiles, the colleges know a 33 is a 99th percentile score, meaning you scored better than 99% of test-takers, which is excellent. Percentiles allow colleges to get a sense of how test-takers do on the ACT and compare you to the rest of the country. However, the ACT score ranges for your target colleges are more important than your percentile ranking. The ACT score range for colleges is the range in which the middle 50% of admitted students’ ACT scores fall. For example, Yale’s ACT score range is 31-35.This means 25% of admitted students scored below a 31, and 75% scored below a 35. Colleges rely heavily on their score ranges when making admissions decisions for the future class. You’ll want your score to be at or above the 75th percentile (for example, 35 for Yale) to give yourself the best chance of admission. To find ACT score ranges for your target schools, search â€Å"[College Name] ACT Scores Prepscholar.†For more information on this, including how to calculate your target score, read our other guide. Aiming for a score in the 75th percentile for your target schools is much more important than aiming for a score in the 99th percentile in the country. There are a few reasons colleges care about the score range over the score percentile: A college’s score range is often a consideration in rankings, so colleges want to admit students with higher scores. Colleges need to publish their score range every year, so they may want a higher range to seem more impressive to the public. While percentiles should bear more weight in college admissions, your final ACT composite number is the one that is most significant. However, if you're applying to an elite college such as the Ivies, you still should pay attentionto your score percentile - especially your State Rank. The Difference Between U.S. Rank and State Rank in Score Percentiles: An Important Note for Ivy League Hopefuls As I said before, your U.S. Rank compares you to every other student in the U.S. Your State Rank percentile compares you to everyone in your state. This distinction may not seem important, but some colleges pay more attention to your state rank than your nationalone. Why? Because, according to acolleague who worked in college admissions, many topcolleges, like the Ivies and Stanford, care about how many students they admit from each state. If you’ve taken a college campus tour at one of these schools, I’m sure you’ve heard the guide brag about their school representing all 50 states.(This does not hold true for all colleges; small colleges and public universities generallydon't care about enrollingstudents from all 50 states.) Because theseschools want to ensure that they have at least one student from each state, gaining admission to a top collegewill be slightly easier for students in states where the average ACT score is belowthan the national average. Let's discus what this would mean for the example student above:herscore percentile was 56 and herstate score percentile was 58.The example student’s score was better than 56% of test-takers in the US and was better than 58% of test-takers in their state. This means the students in the example student’s state scored worseon average than those in the rest of the country. If the example studentis compared to only the other students in their state, shewill have a better shot of admission than if she iscompared to the students throughout the US. However, let’s imagine another example student who’s from New York. New York is a state where the average ACT score is consistently abovethe national average.According to 2014 data from the ACT, the average ACT score for students from New York was 2.1 points better than the national average ACT score. This new student from New York has an ACT score of 34, a U.S. Rank of 99, and a State Rank of 98. If this new student applied to Yale, where hewould technically fall in the score range of 31-35, hemay have a worse shot of being admitted than if hewas applying as a student from Alaska (where hisscore would likely have a State Rank of 99). Keep in mind, however, thatthe advantage of students from small states with lower average ACT scores is not huge.A student from Alaska with a 29 will most likely not be admitted to Yale, just as a student from New Yorkwith a 29 will most likely not be admitted to Yale. However, a student from Alaska with a 33 will have a better shot of being admitted to Yale thana student from New Yorkwith a 33. If you'refrom a competitive state and applying to an Ivy League school, consider aiming for a percentile score of 99 in your state to make you a top applicant from your state. Overall, don't stress too much about your percentile. Whether you're from Alaska or New York or another state, you should try to get your ACT score into the 25th/75th percentile for your school of choice. To have the best shot of admission, aim fora score at or above the 75th percentile in the ACT score range for your target school. Summary: What Do ACT Percentiles Mean For You? You ACT score percentile compares your scores to the rest of your state (State Rank) and the rest of the country (U.S. Rank).Only the composite score percentile really matters for colleges, as they don’ttypicallyuse the section and subscores. However, check your target college's policy.Plan your ACT score target score using your target school’s ACT score range, notusing the score percentile. For students striving for the Ivy League, you may want to consider your State Rank if you’re in an especially competitive state (where the average ACT score is above the national average). If you fall into this category, consider retesting to strive for a percentile score of 99 in your state to make you a top applicant from your state. Project Performance and Control on the London 2012 construction Essay

Project Performance and Control on the London 2012 construction programme - Essay Example Equally, the program did not suffer from any noticeable or significant deviation from the set goals and measures as detailed in the governing blueprint of the schedule. The orderly and harmonious connection of the different aspects of the program was an enabling factor to the attaining of the different goals attained at the various levels and stages of the program. Most project deliverables were within the stipulated range of time and measures. The overall performance of the program is indicative of the accuracy of methods employed, the appropriate estimations, and the quality of controls and management systems employed before and in the course of the construction. The success of the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games depended nearly entirely on the nature of logistics and state of infrastructure. The entire construction project was placed under the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) (Elson, 2012). Experts in the fields of construction, planning, sports, and finance worked together to achieve a level of efficiency that contributed significantly to the successful model of construction and architecture. In essence, analysts contend that much of the efficiency and effectiveness of the program was a factor of appropriate consultation and the assessment of utility, resources, and the element of time. Analysts observe that the performance of the construction program surpassed benchmarks and established standards and that it demonstrated the capacity of London construction industry to overcome the usual inequalities and logistical mishaps that have defined nearly similar projects in the past. Forensic schedule analysis and cost management are some of the key indicators of success that attend to construction projects in many parts of the world. The application of this analysis was manifest in matching of specific processes to respective estimates of time. Teams comprising of contractors, the academia, industry partners, and multiple government bodies worked together with the ODA to assess the kind of synergies that would be required in the development of other systems that are consistent with the nature of success achieved in the London 2012 Construction Program (Elson, 2012). On this note, it becomes important to assess the program as a case in point of the effect of coordination and management on the performance of processes as understood within the construction industry. Appropriate systems of risk management were enlisted throughout the various processes to serve as the safeguards against possible and unforeseeable mishaps to the program. The enlisting of the risk management systems was premised on the awareness of the impact of external factors to the performance of the program. As such, estimates of costs and other operational variables were determined in recognition of the possible variations that determine the nature of performance of processes against the set goals and benchmarks. The preliminary stage of the program focused on the dev elopment of the most appropriate strategy. This stage was one of the most important because it determined the course of action to be taken regarding the other kinds of processes. Some of the details that informed the development of strategy included matters of funding of the specific aspects of the program. Details of internal and external funding were discussed with the view of determining the most appropri

Wannsee conference, was it the place where the final solution was Research Paper

Wannsee conference, was it the place where the final solution was decided - Research Paper Example Essentially, Hitler’s regime had decided to exterminate the entire global population of the Jews. This would be the second time the Jews were facing persecution in Europe. The first significant period of persecution has to be the period of the Black Deaths. This is the time when they were perceived to be the ones accountable for the extensive spread of the plague. Apparently, they achieved this by poisoning the water. During this period, the Jews were suffering the persecutions as the only victims of continental rage. However, during the Holocaust, aside from the Jews, the disabled, the homosexuals, gypsies and at times twins were the recipients of these persecutions. These cleansing expeditions by the Nazis resulted in approximately six million deaths. This is aside from the emotional torture that it subjected to those who were lucky enough not to die. The extensive damage to the human race attributed to the Holocaust is as a result of proper planning by a team of German inte llectuals. The meeting in which they designed and formulated the strategy of this genocide is referred to as the Wannsee Conference. It is the ambition of this paper to give an extensive view of this Conference. This will be realized through the study of seven texts that focus on this Conference. Analysis Gerlach, Christina. "The Wannsee Conference, the Fate of German Jews, and Hitler's Decision in Principle to Exterminate All European Jews." The Journal Of Modern History, 1998: 759-812. The Wannsee Conference has been highlighted as the place where the decision of cleansing Europe of Jews took place. However, what has not been highlighted upon is the political pressure that had characterized Germany prior to the Holocaust. Gerlach illustrates this by stating the political pressure Hitler faced: â€Å" Hitler was reacting to political impulses and initiatives that originated from within the administration and within the party apparatus.†1 According to the author, the Conferen ce had not been mandated with the extermination of the entire Jewish population rather, the Conference had been purposed to decide on who to classify as a Jew. This is crucial given the fact that the Holocaust persecuted not only the Jews, but the homosexuals, the gypsies, the disabled and t extreme levels also twins. This is a rather astounding given the fact that the initial decision was only to cleanse Europe of Jews. The world has over time insinuated that Hitler acted alone in his narcissistic acts of dehumanization. However, Gerlach gives evidence that the political structure of Germany was all a long instrumental in the actions. She writes of the actions of Hitler in deporting the eastern Jews as being as direct urging by the political structure. Author cites documents that are believed to have originated from the Hitler administration showing aliasing of ideas on how to deal, best, with the Jewish community. In light of this, the fact that the idea of exterminating the was d irectly and only from the Hitler becomes suspect. The Conference proceedings were established with the primary motive of deliberating on vital political and economic issues that were pertinent to Germany at the time. To give additional evidence of the vital nature of the Conference, the author illustrates that Hitler approved the deportation of the Jews2. If he was the one who orchestrated all the terrors that were realized due to this continental discrimination, then he would have simply carried

Best Buy Case Study Essay Example for Free

Best Buy Case Study Essay After acquiring a stake in Five Star, a retailer of appliances and electronics in China, Best Buy’s VP John Noble is responsible for launching a dual brand strategy to China as he did in Canada back in 2002. The plan was to open three stores in less than two years in China while Five Star was planning on opening 25 additional stores. Entering China would prove to be much more difficult than neighboring Canada as a country with 1. 3 billion consumers which is a lot of people to please. China was chosen as the second international expansion market primarily due to the overall market opportunity, consumer fundamentals and macro-economic factors (Ivey, 2006). † In addition to the Chinese being very frugal, there was also the issue of the concept of credit, or lack there of in China. About four percent of households in China used credit cards, compared to 75 percent in the United States (Ivey, 2006). Best Buy quickly realized that branding in China was not what really attracted the consumers (Ivey, 2006). Best Buy Inc Best Buy had been interested in entering China since the 1990’s. By that time, China had been hosting many of the United States and Europe as far as different manufacturing products. The option of dual branding was what Best Buy was thinking in order to essentially join forces with Chinas retailer of electronics and appliances, Five Star. By coming together, Best Buy in United States thought that the two companies would be even stronger as one. This sort of dual branding worked very well in Canada and presumably would have the same success in China. Competitors Some of the main competitors of Best Buy are Wal-mart and Costco. The competitors were constantly increasing their CE retail market and in particular they increased the products that were less complex therefore easier to sell. Internet shopping and distributors such as Amazon or sites like that are another example of a competitor in the CE market. Also, home improvement stores such as Home Depot and Lowe’s were also venturing into unknown territory which was competition for Best Buy. â€Å"Lines were blurring as retailers of all kinds were widening their product assortments in pursuit of revenues and margins (Ivey, 2006). † Dual branding in Canada seemed like logical step in that Best Buy and Canada’s Future Shop, the main CE retailer there could join together and become stronger with all of the competition coming about (Ivey, 2006). Dual Branding Canada Canada was paid $363. 95 million dollars to acquire Future Shop. Among several reason why the dual branding took place, the number one reason and most important was that Future Shop was an established brand â€Å"with over 95 percent unaided brand awareness among Canadians (Ivey, 2006). † Though dual branding seemed like a great idea there were also some downsides. Cannibalization was the main problem of course due to the products of Future Store eating the profits of Best Buy and vice versa. There was also the immanent issue that the consumer would not know which brand was which. Despite these issues, by the first year of operations the dual branding strategy seemed to be working and cannibalization seemed minimal. It seemed only natural to give it a try in China (Ivey, 2006). Dual Branding China â€Å"China was chosen as the second international expansion market primarily due to the overall market opportunity, consumer fundamentals and macro-economic factors (Ivey, 2006). However the Chinese consumer was different than that of the United States or Canada. Also, consumers were not really concerned with branding as much as they were messages relating to functional features. Therefore, the preference of brand did not really translate into revenue. There was also the issue of land acquisition as there were often delays which would force a store to take up to 6 months to even open its doors. The Chinese also preferred to deal with people they knew and had previous relationships with so pricing had to be up to par due to the consumer not providing much slack for it. With all of these problems, a dual branding in China did not seem as seamless as it was in Canada (Ivey, 2006). Conclusion It is understandable why Best Buy would want to go global to maximize its profit and consumer base all over. Though things seemed to work out in Canada, it would prove to be a much tougher hill to climb in China just based off the consumers alone and the way things are done there and simply the way of life. It will be interesting to see if the places like Turkey and Mexico, other potential targets will have the same success rate as Canada, and not resemble China’s issues.

How Law Is Passed in Maldives Essay

How law is passed in Maldives. In Maldives laws are made in People’s MaJlis. It’s the supreme authority for law- making by the Article 70 of the constitution. Article 70. â€Å"(a) The legislative authority of the Maldives shall be vested in the People’s Mall’s. † In the Maldives there are 2 types of legislation considered by Parliament. These are: 1- Government Bills (Bills that are introduced by the Government) 2- Private Member Bills (Bills that are introduced by the Members whether individual or from a political party ) Government Bills Government Bills symbolize government policy and a Minister presents them. The bulk of Parliament’s stage is taken up with these types of bills. As the present government does not hold such a large parliamentary majority, it is almost uncertain that all Government Bills will be passed into law (though some may be passed along the way). Private Member Bills Individual Member of Parliaments (MPs) from any political party (or a peer) can introduce a Private Members Bill. These hardly have any chance of becoming law as too much of Parliament’s time is occupied up with Government bills. As a consequence of this, Parliament gets little chance to discuss Private Members Bills, et alone vote on them. Each legislative year, the Cabinet has to decide on what it needs to do regarding lawmaking that year. As such it has to arrange what it needs – though it has to be cautious of assurances made to the public at large. A lawmaking session does not last for one calendar year. With extended adjournments, Parliament actually sits for a lot less than twelve months. Lawmaking in Parliament is driven by what is said in the President Speech that usually opens Assembly in February. The government to introduce whatever form of legislation it needs, a possibly difficult process takes lace before the bill becomes law. The first process is one of origination. This is actually deciding what is going to be contained in that bill. Both ministers and civil servants are responsible for actually drafting the government bill. First the bills are sent to the parliament secretariat for getting scheduled to parliament agenda. The secretariat then will do a primary legal review regarding the text; purpose and the content are in accordance with the constitution and laid down parliament rules. After the preliminary review the secretariat will schedule the bill in the parliament agenda ith the approval of the Speaker. Then the bill will be introduced by the sponsored member and he shall explain the need and the contents of the bill. This stage is called â€Å"first reading† of the bill. Then members of the parliament discuss the bill and then vote on it. The First Reading is the first time that a bill goes before the MaJlis itself. The First Reading is, really nothing actually happens other than the fact a bill goes before Assembly. Then the bill goes for a Second Reading. By the time of the Reading that MPs have the chance for a wide-ranging discussion on a bill’s advantages or otherwise. Usually, though not exclusively, a parliamentary day is given over to a Second Reading, which usually corresponds to about three hours of discussion. Usually, a government minister opens a Second Reading. The debate in the MaJlis is controlled by either the Speaker or the Deputy Speaker. From the Second Reading, the bill moves onto to the Committee Stage. The Committee Stage is the most thorough scrutiny of the bill. This scrutiny is done by a Standing Committee that is made up of 12 to 25 MPs. The Committee evaluates and supports each clause ofa bill. It does not discuss the overall purpose of a bill. Each member of a Standing Committee is allowed to propose an amendment to clauses in the bill. The whole committee stage is meant to be a thorough examination of a bill and it is the longest part of the process. Once it has ended, the process moves on to the Report Stage. Report Stage can last from 30 minutes to several days. From here, the bill returns for its Third Reading. The Third Reading is the final part of the debate regarding the bill within the MaJlis. MPs discuss the overall content of the amended bill. After the third reading, the Speaker opens the floor to take vote for the bill. Then he MPs give their vote through electronic machines fixed infront of MPs Table. Then if MPs vote represents the majority of that session the bill will be passed and will be sent to the President for scrutinizing the Assent. And if it is doesnot get the majority it will be disqualified to become a law. Finally when the President receives the bill he has the discretion to give Assent in the first time. So, if he gives the Assent it will be published on the gazette and it will become a law. But, if he does not give Assent he shall sent the bill to MaJlis for review. Then again that bill is scheduled and MPs ebate on the reservations of the President, and if they still need to pass the law as it is, they shall pass that bill with big majority and sent to President for Assent. Then the President must give Assent and shall publish the new law in Gazzette. An act usually has a date or dates in its text as to when it will be implemented (or when parts of it will be implemented if it is a multi-layered act). Some acts have a Commencement Order in them to activate it, or parts of it. The implementation of that act means that it is part of the law of the land from that date. [ 1 ]. The Theory Of Gun Control - 895 Words

Gun control is people control. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Without our second amendment right the people of the United States of America would be susceptible to abuse from a tyrannical government, and unable to defend themselves from the criminals within society. The theory of gun control has become a controversial topic due to recent mass shootings that call into question the safety of the people of this great country. The fact is that gun control does not work. The city of Chicago Illinois is a prime example. Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country, as well as one of the highest crime rates in the country. On the other hand in Kennesaw Georgia every resident in the city is required by law to own at least one firearm. Immediately after passing their unusual gun law crime rates fell dramatically, so much so that in two thousand eleven through two thousand thirteen there were no murders, twenty two robberies, and no rape cases. (Wm. Craig Graydon) If a bill was passed into law banning firearms there would be no way to collect these weapons from criminals, only from the law abiding citizens. Even in a perfect world were the government would be able to take every gun from every citizen, the criminals would still be able to smuggle or make homemade firearms such as pen guns, and innocent people would be unable to protect themselves.Show MoreRelatedHow Did You Identify The Theoretical Statement?948 Words   |  4 Pagesfirst-stage or second-stage criticism of the theory undermines its veracity.
